Many products on the market today are using a new technique. They’re working with the natural repair cycles of your skin to achieve maximum results. But when we were looking for a comprehensive list of the best nighttime practices to help get better results, we didn’t find anything! Nothing! What we don’t think about, however, is how this sleep cycle affects one of our most important organs–our skin! While we sleep, our skin is busy repairing itself. It replenishes it’s stores of vital skin building elements like collagen and elastin, and restores the skin to proper moisture levels. Best Night Skin Care Tips: Cleansers!
If cleansers aren’t a part of your normal night skin care routine, stop. You really need to use a cleanser! If you’re not using a cleanser at night, that means that you’re going to sleep with oily, nasty makeup that can clog your pores. This can cause a whole host of skin care issues, but it can especially lead to acne, or even cystic acne. While it’s not too important which cleanser you’re using, it is important to find one that works with your skin type. If you have sensitive skin, go for a cleanser that doesn’t contain salicylic acid. Also to note, try to avoid cleansers with added perfumes, and especially alcohol. The evaporation can lead to moisture loss, which you absolutely DO NOT WANT! This ain’t Jim Carry’s mask. But night masks can definitely transform the way your responds to moisturizers, and even the way it looks in the mirror. Mud masks have been used for centuries as a way to naturally clean the face and cleanse the pores. So, if you have some time on your hands, we recommend a nice, soothing mud mask between the cleansing and moisturizing portions of your nightly routine. Our favorite mud mask right now is the Aztec Healing Clay Mask. Add a bit of Apple Cider Vinegar, and it turns into one of the better masks on the market at its price point. (We did a recent review on it, check it out on our main page.) If we didn’t mention it, by removing the debris from clogged pores you allow your moisturizer to absorb deeper into your skin, giving better measurable results! While it doesn’t have to be at night, we like doing it in the evening before bed because it’s relaxing.
Best Night Skin Care Tips: Moisturizer!
If you’re not using a heavy duty moisturizer before bed time, we need to talk. Giving your skin the nutrients it needs to repair itself during the night repair cycle is one of the most crucial things you can do for your skin. By cleansing, masking and moisturizing, you’re cleaning your skin of debris, lifting out debris from clogged pores, and delivering nutrients deep into your skin for the biggest benefits. If you’re looking to go beyond support for your skin in this stage, you can also use serums or creams at this point. This is the ideal time to use serums, actually, because it gives your skin time out of the sun while the acids typically contained in serums, like hyaluronic, ascorbic, etc. go to work. Either way, we recommend a moisturizer at the end of the night.
